Me and Masitah went to Singapore on the 29/4/05 and back to Malaysia on the 2nd/5/05. My 1st trip to Singapore and Masitah's first trip abroad. We stayed at my friend's house, Christina (aka Chris) at Bayshore Park. We got to meet her husband, Jody and their cute little boy, Bobby (1 1/2 years old). Our journey from Malaysia is by bus which took us about 6 hrs...wow, i got to sleep and dream during the whole journey. We reached safely at Lavender Street, Singapore where i told the bus driver that that is our last destination. We have about 6 passengers left where the rest of them got down at Larkin, Johor Bahru. Chris and Bobby meet us up at the Lavender MRT station. We carried along our bags, walking from the bus station to the MRT. Luckily we met a Malaysian woman (who married to a Singaporean) who gladly showed us the way to the MRT station. Hmmm.. my first time i set foot at Singapore...feeling a little bit different though. Form Lavender MRT station, we took a cab to Bayshore Park. Bayshore Park, a very nice condominium and very modern too. Chris will swipe her multipurpose card at the entrance of Sappire Tower.. (the blocks are named after gems..diamond, sappire etc) before we can enter the building and to the lift. Wah, finally we got a chance to relax after a day long in the bus. I wish i can fly to Singapore. Okey, at night we had our dinner at Hawker Sport Centre. It's very ..... dunno how to describe la. I don't see that in Malaysia. The hawker centre is divided into 2 which is 1 part is Halal Food(mostly malay hawkers) and 1 part is non-halal food. And the centre is very, very, very clean . You got to see youngsters cycling and happily roller blading (hehe i wonder if that word exist ). It is very windy because it is nearby the sea. I can see lights, maybe from the ship...i guess there is a port there huh. Can't see, so dark at night. Okay, after dinner me, chris and masitah went to Clark Quay .. the most happening street full of clubs, discos and lounges. Hehe we didn't go clubbing la. Chris met up with her friends at the boat house while me and masitah stroll along the river bank. I wonder how is the water looks like during the day huh... . We watch bungee erm..not jumping but you have to sit inside a cage ( i guess) and they strap you to your seats. When they release the cable, err strap that holds the 'cage' to the pillar, so up u go swingging up and down. My goodness, i don't dare risking my everything doing that stunt... One guy even got his shoes flying from the bungee to the ground hehe.
The next day is what i've been waiting for....Orchard Road....shopping haven. I just couldn't believe my eyes where every step i made goes along a long stretch of shopping complexes..the largest is (i guess) Ngee Ann City. We manage to go half through it because our legs are really sooooooo tired....i manage to shop for a few skirts and a handbag . Sunday is where we went to Sentosa Island and our main target is the Underwater World.... i'm so amazed by layout of the place...(well by the time i wrote this there is one bening build in Kuala Lumpur - the Aquaria KLCC, sejibik mcm Underwater World Singapore and i hope it is better). Okey, at night we stroll along Bugis Street, hmmm just like our Petaling Street. The difference is that the traders are Bugis in Singapore (it jives well with the street). Okey, Monday, our holiday ends and it is time for me and masitah to go back to KL....by bus again. So, that's my first time journey to Singapore and i really hope to visit that country again. Wish to visit Arab Street, Esplanade, Mustafa Centre and many, many more laaaa. C u guys again.

Selamat Ari Gawai 2005
|

Hi... Gawai Dayak ...or another meaning of Harvest Festival is celebrated by all the Dayaks communities in Sarawak on the 1st and 2nd of June every year. It is a day to celebrate the harvest of paddy... (i hope i'm right abt it) okay.... the journey begins.......
My village (or we call it kampung) is located inside the beautiful virgin jungle of Sarawak...it is called Kampung Sait... we have to drive to Kampung Bengoh first, using the Borneo Heights road and we have to leave our vehicles there as no vehicle can get through the jungle tracks to my kampung. Usually, my parents from kampung will wait for us at kampung Bengoh, getting ready to help us carrying all the goodies back to kampung using the 'tambuk'...(i don't know what it is called in english or malay for it) Okay... then the jungle tracking begins..by foot carrying our goodies and our bags of cloths, hmmm the journey must be very interesting i suppose. I haven't went back to my kampung for a very, very long time...say 12 years ..yelah, since i ...erm i'm staying in KL. Okay, we have to cross 3 suspension bridges, the first bridge is a wooden one..well at least i'm still brave to set my foot on it...shaky lah... then the second and third one is fully made of strong bamboos ..stretching about ...say 60 feet made by the kampung folks.... and tying it up using wires and cables. At the middle of the bridge, it is swaying up and down and i dare not to look at the river beneath me. I imagined all kinds of creatures waiting to catch me if i fall...... After that, we rested abt 20 mins at Bawet...wah i goggled up all my drinking water at once......soooo thirsty la.. like i can swallow up the whole river.....and the sun is sooooooo hot... eventhough it is only 9.30 am.. we continued walking again and climbing the highest hill (i supposed) so steep that we have to stop a few times to rest and i can only hear my own breath.... okay the second bamboo brigde awaits us.... at last we reached kampung at abt 10.30 am.... well a good 2 hrs walk.. kampung looks different now..the river still looks the same...
1st june- Gawai Day, the playing of gongs started at 12.00 midnight of the 31st May, ending at 6.00 am.. I can't play the gongs.. In the afternoon, there is a some kind of ceremony (they called it rajang) accompanied by the playing of the gongs by the kampung folks. Very, very interesting. We visited our relatives houses too.....just like Hari Raya, and during the night there is a karaoke competition, and 'joget' till wee hours in the morning. The 2nd day, there is a football , dart, blowpipe, catapult competition.. hmm all my three brothers are playing in 3 different football team and my elder brother's team is the champion of all champions. okaylah, at night is the lucky draw, i bought 5 tickets but i gave it all to my nephew...at least he won one prize. The 3rd day is a day where we have to go back to Kuching..i felt sad, i will miss my cute niece, my parents at home and everything else. My kampung will have to evacuate to a new area since the government of Sarawak will construct a dam to provide clean water to the residents of Kuching. What to do? My kampung is situated in a catchment area. Okaylah, that's about my kampung, Kampung Sait and the how the kampung folks celebrated their Gawai Festival.

hellooooooo you guys out there... Cuti-cuti Malaysia last January. The weather in Langkawi is extremely hot la.... even the trees change colours.. But the clear blue sky keeps my troubles away. Berjaya Beach Resort is a very, very nice place to stay. Our chalet is located on the hill top (macam tengah hutan). We can hear the sounds of nature...monkeys.. anywhere, anytime. 4 days seems like it's not enough la.. I can spend one week in that beautiful resort. It is very suitable for honeymooners... full of privacy and lots of foreigners (macam kat London pulak ) My favourite place is Galleria Perdana, a gallery full of our ex-prime ministers memorablia. Hmm..no wonder he keeps all those gifts from around the world in a gallery...it is too many , including our national cars too. Langkawi Island is a duty free island.... and we shopped till we dropped .
If you guys have the chance to visit Langkawi, don't forget the Cable Car..it is very safe and enjoyable.... i can see the whole island from the top of the mountain... If the weather is fine, maybe i have the chance to see some of the islands in Thailand. An opportunity not to be missed.
